Tourism: EuroCham participates in China Ready workshop - June 25

On 25 June, EuroCham participated in a “China Ready” workshop organized by the Ministry of Tourism to engage the tourism and hospitality industry in attracting part of the 120 million Chinese tourists that travel overseas each year. On this occasion, EuroCham was invited to coordinate and moderate a panel on Cambodia’s potential to attract Chinese tourists. EuroCham members Almond Group and KCJSM joined as panelists with insightful presentations on the Cambodia’s current offerings for Chinese tourists and Cambodia’s coastline potential to develop as a major destination for Chinese tourists.

EuroCham goes to Belgium, Switzerland and Italy - June 30

In late June, EuroCham’s Outreach division met with chambers of commerce and professional associations in Belgium, Switzerland and Italy. The goal was to raise awareness about Cambodia amongst these partners and to prepare for a larger outreach mission at the end 2016 and beginning of 2017. EuroCham Cambodia also organized a conference in Belgium with EuroCham Laos and Myanmar.

EuroCham presents at Asia Foundation Workshop - June 30

On 30 June, EuroCham joined the official launching of the Reform Inventory Initiative and gave a presentation on the current reforms that matter to the private sector. The Reform Inventory can be found here: https://reforminventory.wikispaces.com/



EuroCham Logistics Special Report: EU's ASSIST Tool Coming - July 5

EuroCham participated in an event coordinated by the EU Delegation promoting the soon-to-be-launched ASSIST online tool. It will allow companies engaged in intra-ASEAN trade, to raise specific trade-related issues to the governments of ASEAN member states. Read more



EuroCham Meets with the World Bank - July 6

On July 6, EuroCham joined other private sector representatives to meet visiting World Bank Vice President for Asia and the Pacific, Mrs. Victoria Kwakwa. The World Bank was seeking the private sector’s assessment of Cambodia’s economic prospects as well as requesting their input for the World Bank’s Country Diagnosis and Country Engagement Note.


EuroCham presents at MoT Stocktaking Congress - July 14

On July 14, EuroCham made a presentation at the Stocktaking Congress organized by the Ministry of Tourism for an overall assessment of the year’s first semester. EuroCham provided an overview on works achieved by the public and private task force on Tourism Safety within the framework of Government and Private Sector Forum- Working Group B. Of particular highlight were the current efforts to increase tourism police presence after 6:00 pm, to install public lights and security cameras at identified crossroads and to provide an efficient hotline to quickly address tourists emergency needs and complaints.  

EuroCham attends Customs-Private Sector Partnership Mechanism (CPPM) meeting - July 14

EuroCham participated in the meeting of the Customs Private Sector Partnership Mechanism to discuss issues raised by our members from the Automotive Committee and the Transports and Logistics Committee, as part of our ongoing advocacy dialogue with the Royal Government. 

EuroCham participates in MoE Environment Code draft July 19

Throughout the month of July, EuroCham has joined four meetings related to the ongoing consultations as part of the elaboration of Cambodia’s Environmental Code. Of particular interest was 19 July’s National Workshop on the Draft Guidelines for Public Participation in EIA Process in Cambodia. The Ministry of Environment is currently drafting the Environment Code through a wide consultation process in which EuroCham and its Green Business Committee are actively participating.


EuroCham meets with the Swiss Assistant State Secretary and Swiss Ambassador - July 19

On 19 July, EuroCham had a chance to meet and share its assessment of Cambodia’s current economic prospects with visiting Swiss Assistant State Secretary for Asia Pacific, Mr. Johannes Matyassy, and Swiss Ambassador to Cambodia, Thailand and Laos, Mr. Ivo Sieber.
