Member Spotlight | ASSIST Asia

ASSIST Asia is one of EuroCham’s newest members. Their head office is in the Philippines but their work spans over 10 countries, including Cambodia and Myanmar. Their mission is to work towards empowering targeted groups to build resilient communities. EuroCham met with the Country Manager of Cambodia and Myanmar, Mathieu Vergez, to better understand the company and evaluate EuroCham membership benefits. Read the interview below:

What compelled you to join EuroCham?

One of the main pillars of ASSIST’s operations in Cambodia is the implementation of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) aimed at European companies. I think strengthening our link with Eurocham could be a “Win-Win” situation for both the Members and ASSIST. I was myself part of the EuroCham team between November 2014 and March 2015 so I am convinced of the benefits ASSIST could find by becoming Member.

Which past projects are your most proud of and why?

SAVE PPP project was the one who helped ASSIST setting up its activities in Cambodia. The primary purpose of SAVE was to create more environmentally friendly production sites across the footwear, apparel, and accessory supply chain in Cambodia. Its ultimate goal of was to reduce their energy, water, waste and greenhouse gas emissions by 25% compared to a 2011 baseline. Ultimately, SAVE contributed towards achieving a green economy and sustainable industrial development through local capacity building and technical assistance.

What types of partnerships and/or links do you look for with other EuroCham members?

Since 2007 we have been working with few German developmental organization such as DEG (KFW) and GIZ, partnering with Western European-based multinational companies based in Asia & Africa through a PPP (Public Private Partnership) approach.
