On March 14, EuroCham Cambodia held its first event outside Cambodia. The first CAMBODIA FOCUS, organized in Bangkok, aimed to highlight the potential of the Kingdom as an investment destination. The program included presentations from H.E. Mr Sok Chenda, secretary general of CDC who presented an overview of Cambodia’s Trade and Investment and Mr Guillaume Massin, director of DFDL Cambodia, who provided the tax and legal framework in doing business in Cambodia followed by a very lively panel discussion on Cambodia’s attractiveness as an investment destination with His Excellencies Mr George Edgar, EU Ambassador, Mr Sok Chenda, Mr Sok Siphana and Mr Arnaud Darc, Chairman of EuroCham. Testimonies from British Ambassador Mr George Edgar, Swedish Ambassador Mrs Maria Sargren and French Ambassador Mr Jean Claude Poimboeuf, as well as Success Stories from Bosch and Melon Rouge completed this half-day seminar. The afternoon was dedicated to B2B meetings for companies interested in getting more specific information on their respective sector.
The event was made possible thanks to the great support of all the bilateral business associations and representations in Thailand including: the French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Finnish, Belgian-Luxemburgish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, British Chambers of Commerce as well as the commercial section of the Embassy of Spain and the Austrian Embassy.
Overall, the feedback and response from the audience was largely positive. Indeed, EU companies present in Thailand would normally be able to benefit from the synergies that can be leveraged between the two countries (proximity, SEZ at the border…) and from a regional strategy of Thailand+1 already implemented successfully by Japanese Companies such as Minebea for example.
