LDC Graduation Workshop with Ministry of Commerce

Adidas, Lidl Kaufland & Nike – 2026

As Cambodia is expected to graduate from Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2029. International brands sourcing from Cambodia are assessing how changes in EU trade terms, stricter compliance rules, and stronger regional competition could affect their supply chains. In response, brands like Adidas, Lidl, and Nike sought assistance to meet with the Royal Government of Cambodia to discuss post-LDC risks.

On 3 March 2026, EuroCham Cambodia and the EU-ASEAN Business Council organised a high-level public-private dialogue at Novotel Phnom Penh BKK1, bringing together senior government representatives, manufacturers, and international brands including Adidas, Lidl, and Nike.

The session featured expert inputs from Adidas and Lidl and focused on trade policy reform, supply chain readiness, GSP+ conditionalities, rules of origin, rising costs, and compliance with EU standards, in the context of increasing regional and global competition. Representatives from six Government institutions participated: the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Council for the Development of Cambodia, the Office of the Council of Ministers, the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The dialogue enabled an open exchange on policy priorities, reform needs, and practical steps to strengthen Cambodia’s long-term trade competitiveness and EU market access.
