Commercial arbitration has played an important role as an alternative to dispute resolution to provide individuals, businesses, and institutions the option of resolving their commercial disputes in an efficient and effective manner. This type of resolution has grown popular among the business community over the past years, especially in Cambodia.
Established in 2009 and officially launched in 2013, the National Commercial Arbitration Centre ("NCAC") is an independent and not-for-profit organization, with a mission to facilitate the resolution of commercial disputes and support the development of the Cambodian economy. In recent years, the NCAC has successfully resolved a several cases, which involve parties of various nationalities and disputes of various nature.
Nonetheless, it appears that many members of the business community in Cambodia are not fully aware of the recent developments of commercial arbitration in Cambodia as well as the NCAC's services available to them. In partnership with the NCAC, the European Chamber of Commerce of Cambodia is organizing a Business Community Forum on Commercial Arbitration in Cambodia with the aim of raising awareness on the subject and to share some insight on commercial arbitration in the context of certain specialized areas such as construction and corporate disputes.
