EuroCham is excited to invite you to the second webinar of The Real Estate September co-partner with Build4People Project on " Green Building Certification as Driver for a Sustainable Transition of the Real Estate Sector on Wednesday 22 September from 3:00pm til 4:30pm. 

In this webinar session, it wil focus on how to raise construction quality through green building certification, an update on what quantifies a healthy & green building and the regional progress with case studies from Vietnam and China.

Topics covered include:

  • Introduction of sustainability approaches of Build4People project;
  • German Sustainable Building Certification applied in the Asia Region;
  • Regional progress of Certified Green Buildings and Quality Aspects; and
  • Benefits of Certification of Sustainable neighborhoods based on the Introduction of Case Studies.

At the end of the webinar session, there will be a panel discussion comprised of industry experts focusing on the Benefits of Green Buildings for Cambodia's Real Estate Sector which showcase in-country initiatives, such as the Cambodia Green Building Council and upcoming innovative building projects that focus on eco-friendly construction for a more sustainable working and healthy living environment.

Mr. Michel  CASSAGNES, Managing Director at Archetype Cambodia, Country Representative of CTBUH, and Chairman of the EuroCham Real Estate & Construction Committee

Michel Cassagnes, Architect & Managing Director of Archetype Cambodia & Laos, has more than 20 years’ experience in several countries: Portugal, France, Australia, China, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. He has practiced architecture and urban design while conducting multi-disciplinary design teams. Michel has worked on a wide range of projects from shopping centers in China and Vietnam to hotels & resorts in Vietnam, Laos and Australia to residential and commercial buildings in Cambodia. His design team won the BCI 2015 Green Leadership award for the Laurelton Diamonds Project in Phnom Penh.

Michel is actively involved in the construction industry in Cambodia through various Eurocham committees -- Real Estate & Construction and Green Biz -- with a specific focus on green buildings. He was also a judge at last year’s Asia Property Awards.

Dr. Susanne BODACH is an international sustainability expert with working experience in South-America, the Middle East, South-Asia and Southeast Asia. She is an architect with a Master degree in Resources Management and holds an PhD degree in Sustainable Buildings from Technical University of Munich. She has over 15 years of working experience with research institutions, development agencies and private sector companies. Susanne is managing director of BEE Incorporation in Cambodia. BEE Incorporations is a multi-national consultancy company headquartered in Asia that delivers sustainability solutions for green and healthy buildings worldwide. BEE delivered over 500 certified Green Building projects in 30 countries. She has been recently elected as the Green Business Committee's Chairwoman of EuroCham Cambodia since May 2021.

Dr. Michael WAIBEL, Build4People Project Consortium Leader

  • Senior researcher at Hamburg University, Germany
  • Research experience in Vietnam, China and Cambodia since 1996
  • Project leader of Build4People: Enhancing Quality of Life through Sustainable Urban Transformation in Cambodia (2021-2025)
  • Sub-project leader of CAMaRSEC: Climate-Adapted Material Research for the Socio-Economic Context of Vietnam (2019-2023)

Dr. Stephan ANDERS, German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB)

Stephan Anders studied Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Stuttgart and the ETH Zurich. From 2009 to 2015 he was an Assistant Professor and doctoral candidate at the Institute for Urban Design at the University of Stuttgart. The focus in teaching and research were sustainable cities and districts. In 2016 he published his dissertation with the title "city as a system: method of holistic analysis of planning concepts".

Since 2012, he has been working for the German Sustainable Building Council e. V. (DGNB), Europe biggest network for sustainable building. At DGNB he is responsible for the development and international application of the certification systems for sustainable urban districts and industrial locations, as well as the DGNB auditor training and DGNB university cooperation.

Since 2017 he is the Director of the DGNB System and is responsible for all national and international certifications at the DGNB (districts, buildings, interiors).

Since 2015 he is also a lecturer for urban planning at the University of Applied Sciences in Stuttgart.

Dr. Dirk SCHWEDE, Leader WP “Sustainable Building” of Build4People Project

Dr Dirk Schwede (PhD USyd AU, Dipl.-Ing.) has studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig and the University of Stuttgart. He received a PhD from the University of Sydney in Australia in 2006. In 2008 he founded the consulting firm energy design in Shanghai as a partner and served then as its managing director till the end of 2012. He and his team of specialized engineers have been (and still are) contributing as consultants and engineers to sustainable building throughout China and Asia. He has been visiting professor at Tongji University in Shanghai (2010-2013; 2015-2016). 

From 12/2012 till 12/2017 Dr Schwede has been Juniorprofessor for Sustainable Building at the University of Stuttgart endowed by the Robert Bosch Foundation. Dr Schwede is further managing director of the engineering consulting firm EGSplan international in Stuttgart. Today he is Research Group Leader of the group for „System Integration and Sustainable Building“ at the Institute for Building Energetics, Thermotechnology and Energy Storage (IGTE), Stuttgart University, Germany and is working on several large research projects on sustainable and energy efficient building in Vietnam and Cambodia. He is also working as a consultant for UNDP, ADB and GIZ. 

His research is focused on sustainable development in the Asian context and climate through architectural and engineering measures in the built environment as well as on adapted sustainable building approaches for developing and emerging countries. 

Mr. Rolf MESSERSCHMIDT, Leader WP “Sustainable Neighbourhoods” of Build4People Project

  • Urban designer, architect and managing director at Eble Messerschmidt Partner in Tuebingen (close to Stuttgart), Germany
  • International research and development projects, master planning  experience in South-East Asia focusing on sustainable design
  • DGNB auditor for urban districts, member of the DGNB Technical Board,  involvement in DGND Academy and coordination of DGNB Expert Groups
  • Leader of Work Package on Sustainable Neighbourhoods in the  Build4People project: Enhancing Quality of Life through Sustainable Urban  Transformation in Cambodia (2021-2025)

Mr. NOP Sokhai, National Council for Sustainable Development/Green Building Guidelines and Certification (GBGC)

Mr. Sokhai Nop is a deputy director for the Department of Green Economy. He is in charge of sustainable cities, sustainable energy and green buildings in the department. He has more than 15 years of experience in capacity building, research and policy development in the fields of environment, sustainable consumption and production and sustainable development. Sokhai facilitated more than 50 multi-stakeholder consultations, training and planning exercises. He holds a degree of Bachelor in Environmental Science from Royal University of Phnom Penh and a Master of Sustainability from the University of Adelaide, Australia.   

Mr. CHEA Bunseang, Cambodia Green Building Council (CamGBC)

Mr. CHEA Bunseang is currently the Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, with sub-decree appointed by Prime Minister as the assistant direct to Minister to review and work on the Environmental policies include the National Environmental Codes, EIA Committee Member, as task team member working on the National Green Building Policy. He has also done some consultancy for The World Bank on environmental safeguard policy and its implementation in Cambodia. ​

Mr. CHEA holds a Master’s Degree in Social Science from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, with a specialization in the field of Urban Environmental Management. And holds a B.A of Arts, Specialized in Architecture and Urban Planning from the Royal University of Fine-Arts, Phnom Penh. He is also the Principal Architect of Hanlim Bunseang Architecture and previously worked in Nubutaka Ashihara Associates, a New York based design firm.

Mr. YUK Sothirith, World Bridge Homes

Sothirith is the general manager of Worldbridge Homes, a subsidiary of Worldbridge Group, whose mission is to provide quality, safe and affordable houses as well as to promote a vibrant, cohesive community among low and medium income households. A graduate from Development Planning Unit of the University College London, he has spearheaded the development of affordable housing project and look after a few other new property development projects.
