Identifying Critical Skills Gaps for Employee Development
Swisscontact – 2024
As Cambodia’s economy continues to grow and move toward graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status, addressing workforce skills gaps has become essential to maintaining competitiveness and supporting private sector development. In this context, Swisscontact, through its Skills Development Programme, commissioned a comprehensive assessment to better understand labour market needs and identify priority skills shortages across key sectors.
EuroCham Cambodia collaborated with Swisscontact to deliver the Skills Gap Assessment 2024, conducting a survey of 106 companies across industries such as manufacturing, construction, electrical and mechanical services, and tourism. The study analysed recruitment challenges, in-demand skills, and training needs, providing evidence-based insights to support both policymakers and businesses.
The findings revealed significant gaps in both technical and soft skills, particularly in areas such as leadership, quality control, and project management. Despite strong business growth prospects, many firms reported difficulties in finding qualified workers. The report now serves as a key reference for shaping targeted training programs and informing policy decisions to strengthen Cambodia’s workforce and long-term economic resilience.
