The Presentation Clinic says companies would save tens of thousands of dollars
PHNOM PENH, 4 July 2017
Multi-national corporations in Phnom Penh should start using locally-based training companies, instead of sending their staff to be trained in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok.
While it might have made sense to do this a few years ago, it makes little financial sense in 2017.
Andrew Barnes, director of “The Presentation Clinic” in Phnom Penh, says by using locally-based trainers, multi-national companies wouldn’t just be reducing costs:
“Currently, tens of thousands of dollars are being injected into the economies of Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand through the practice of sending Cambodian staff to be trained in those countries. By keeping this training investment here at home, these multi-nationals will be helping to further stimulate the Cambodian economy. Why send staff abroad to be trained, when this training is now readily available here?”
Barnes says The Presentation Clinic is but one of a handful of new training companies in Phnom Penh, which are able to provide world-class corporate training at a fraction of the cost of those in other regional centres.
“I can understand that several years ago, there was little choice but to send staff to other countries to be trained, but times have changed. The corporate training landscape in Phnom Penh is vastly more sophisticated now. As an industry, we are more than capable of providing all the training global companies need, but with the added advantage of having local knowledge.”
Barnes says the cost-saving that would be achieved by training staff locally cannot be overstated.
“By the time you have added up the costs for flights, accommodation and S&T allowances, not to mention the actual training itself, multi-nationals are spending well over a thousand dollars per person to conduct their training abroad. They would achieve a cost-reduction of well over 50%, simply by using training providers right here in Phnom Penh.”
Barnes says what is encouraging is the growing number of multi-nationals who are seeing the advantage of training locally. He says these companies are not only enjoying a massive cost-saving, but are also helping to develop Cambodia’s training sector, which can only benefit the kingdom and its people.
