Three Quick Q's with Samuel Schleipman, RBH Coordinator
This week, we had a quickfire interview with our new RBH Coordinator Samuel Schleipman. Read it below!
Q: What are your intital impressions of the RBH as you get started on your journey at EuroCham?
A: It's been exciting to see how each of EuroCham's diverse industry committees have been very engaging and receptive to the purpose of the Responsible Business Hub. Each committee knows that different responsible business issues are highly relevant to their sectors, from reducing harmful environmental impacts to improving social accountability to workers and Cambodian communities, and wants to approach their work with these issues in mind.
Q: Are there certain issues within the wide RBH umbrella you are really passionate about?
A: For me, a key approach of the RBH needs to be helping companies to understand that while doing business in a socially responsible and environmentally friendly way, and having strong ESG systems in place, may seem like a hassle in the short-term, these steps will truly boost their businesses in the long term. Responsible businesses have higher employee satisfaction, lower turnover, better reputations, and are more appealing to consumers and business partners.
Q: If you had to describe the RBH to someone who hadn't heard about it and you only had 30 seconds, what would you say?
A: The job of the RBH is to facilitate responsible businesses practices across Cambodia. We partner with key government Ministries and civil society stakeholders to offer policy recommendations and raise public awareness on key issues. The RBH is a free information and support service that works closely with businesses to help them in becoming more socially and environmentally conscious and meet the due diligence needs of clients. Ideally we want to make Cambodia known as a country where international buyers can confidently source clothing, agricultural products, and manufactured goods that have been produced responsibly.
