EuroCham Official Statement on US Tariff Measures
Statement on Recent U.S. Tariff Measures Against Cambodian Exports
Phnom Penh, April 4th 2025
In light of the recently announced U.S. tariff measures, EuroCham stands with the Royal Government of Cambodia in expressing serious concern over the 49% tariff on Cambodian exports — reportedly the highest among all countries affected.
Should these tariffs be levied, they will have a significant impact on Cambodia’s export-driven economy — particularly in the garment, footwear, and travel goods sectors, as well as related supply chains, where many EuroCham members and partners hold key stakeholding positions or long-standing partnerships. The tariffs are also likely to have broader economic repercussions across other sectors.
The high tariff calculation appears to be linked to Cambodia’s trade surplus with the United States, based on a ratio of exports to overall trade volume. Local officials have indicated that negotiations remain possible, and the Royal Government has formed a working group to assess the impact and identify a response.
Whilst we seek further clarity in the coming days, we emphasize that EuroCham remains actively engaged with both the Royal Government of Cambodia and the European private sector — and will continue to serve as a reliable source of information for our members, starting with a live Q&A session with EuroCham’s Sustainability Expert Massimiliano Tropeano on EuroCham Members Q&A telegram group from 3pm to 4pm today and the “Global Trade Tensions: Are You Tariff Ready” luncheon on this topic with Edwin Vanderbruggen planned on April 24th.
