Recap: Waste Summit Cambodia

Waste Summit Cambodia shined a light on some of the major waste issues affecting the Kingdom on Saturday at Factory Phnom Penh with a special focus on the role of the informal waste sector.

Organised by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Cambodia with GIZ Cambodia and EuroCham as partners, the event brought together public and private sector representatives to help find solutions to Cambodia’s growing waste problem.

Over 500 participants attended the summit, which featured sustainable business booths and a variety of media presentations that left a lasting impression.

EuroCham’s Green Business Committee Vice-Chairman Rogier van Mansvelt gave a speech introducing the chamber’s new Green Finance Sub-committee, which aims to promote the formation of an energy service company (ESCO) association in Cambodia.

Mansvelt also spoke about his work at Global Green Growth Institute Cambodia, where he is working on processing unsegregated waste into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) that can replace coal in cement factories, as well as a program that would introduce a sanitation and waste authority in Kep.

The Business Talk series at the event was moderated by Christoph Janensch of German Business Cambodia and the Business Scouts for Development.

Thank you KAS and GIZ for hosting such a great event and Christoph and Rogier for lending your time and expertise to such an important cause!
