Companies hoping to export food products face a challenging task. They must first identify which food safety standards are relevant to their target markets, and then sift through complicated legal terminology to understand how to reach those standards.
At times it can seem an overwhelmingly complex process.
To help alleviate this challenge, ARISE+ Cambodia and EuroCham organized the fourth SME Export Talk focus on “Food Safety for Export” with more than 140 live attendees.
This export talk aimed to provide companies a better understanding of the process and requirements to obtaining food safety standards, as well as the companies & auditors that can help them reach those standards.
We were joined by Ms. Rathana Young – Food Safety Auditor of Control Union, who provided a comprehensive overview of food safety certifications, certification costs, and key obstacles to overcome. Then, Ms. Oanh Dinh (Cindy), Key Account Manager at Bureau Veritas AQ Vietnam, shared the key role that laboratories play in ensuring F&B products meet export requirements.
Finally, the session ended with a success story from Mr. Meas Holy, Sales Manager at Kirirom Food Production (KFP) Co., Ltd. Mr. Holy shared KFPs journey towards food product exports – the highs, the lows, the complaints, and the opportunities that arose through meeting niche food safety standards such as Kosher, Halal and more. The company is currently working towards its most rigorous certificate to date – the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety – which will enable it to export to the US.
EuroCham and ARISE+ Cambodia would like to thank all speakers and participants for the great engagement on what is clearly an important topic. For those who missed it, the webinar recording will soon be posted on our YouTube channel.
